Whitehorse Lifestyle

Whitehorse offers the perfect mix of urban and country living. Minutes from your office, the silence and solitude of the mountains will comfort you or indulge at a modern cafe before meeting friends at a brewpub. Surrounded by more hiking, riding, and ATV trails, than you can imagine all taking you places, it seems no one else has been. Endless adventure awaits.

The city is growing, in 2010, the population was 28,872, and as of June 30, 2019, 32,304, that’s an 11.89% increase in nine years, and there is no sign of the trend slowing.

What Drives the Economy?

Skilled workers are in short supply, and if you have an entrepreneurial spirit opportunity knocks.

The largest sector of our economy is government and government services; 30% of the jobs in Whitehorse are in administration and offer generous wages.

Average weekly pay stats for Public Administration $1413.70 Territorial Administration $1600.14 Federal Administration $1776.21 Median family income $114,310
Hourly wage $27.73 or $1,117.72 week this is 11.6% higher than the national average

Cost Of Housing

Expensive? Cheap? Affordable? Attainable? Unattainable! Sky Rocketing? Crazzzzy!

All of these can describe the real estate market in Whitehorse. Value is subjective; math is objective. The average price of a house went up 8.9% in 2018, bolstering the price to $517,500 and $359,000 for a condo.

Outdoor Recreation

The hub for the outdoor enthusiast is Coast Mountain Sports and Hougen’s Sportslodge. They will gear you up for a serene cross-country trail or hunting basecamp. Every adventure brings you to new sights you’d never expect and memories you’ll always remember. Imagine peering into a meadow to discover a moose standing in an emerald pond. Daily life offers postcard-like beauty when the Yukon is your backyard.

Escaping

Air North, Yukon’s Airline offers flights at a lower price than Air Canada most days by several hundred dollars, it’s worth checking them out, and they don’t use sites like Travelocity. Air North also treats patrons to free food on every flight, depending on the time of day, think muffins and cookies baked onboard, charcuterie and sandwichs and most evenings a warm meal freshly made in Whitehorse by chef Michael Bock. Air North is our hidden gem.
