Hillcrest was substantially developed in the ‘50s with a unique style of duplexes built with steel siding. These duplexes have been given the name ‘steel-locks.’ These unique dwellings have earned the suburb a reputation of being Artsy because of the creative renovations owners have done to these former military homes. Most of the single-family houses in Hillcrest were built in the early ‘60s and ’70s. The lot sizes for the entire neighbourhood are generous. Hillcrest offers a wonderful mix of creative housing and modern construction.
